Project FAQs
General Motors announced on June 13, 2023, the construction of an EV battery plant in New Carlisle, IN – just west of South Bend. The plant will have more than 30 GWh of capacity, bringing GM's total U.S. battery cell capacity to about 160 GWh at full production. 该工厂预计将拥有生产富含镍的棱柱状和圆柱形电池的生产线，并将雇用约1700名工人.

Construction is planned to begin within the next year and support more than 1,000 jobs during the build. The companies plan to start production in New Carlisle in 2026.
